A large community with homes built after 2000, Ocean Neighbors, as it name implies, is just four miles from the ocean and still less than eight miles to downtown Charleston. The majority of these vinyl-sided traditional homes have 3 or 4 bedrooms and between 1,500 to 2,500 square feet of living space.
Amenities include a gazebo, grassy common areas, a children’s playground and a fishing pier on the neighborhood’s 20-acre lake. Some homes also feature private pools. Home prices range from the mid-$200s to the low $400s, with the higher priced homes being those that back up to the lake. Boats are allowed in the neighborhood and there are two public boat landings between it and Folly Beach.
Located off Old Military Road, the neighborhood is close to a variety of shopping, restaurants and professional services. In the highly rated James island school district, children attend James Island Elementary, which is just across the road, with some homes zoned for Harborview Elementary School. James Island Middle School and James Island Charter High Scholl are the other schools in the district.
Nearby recreational facilities include the James Island Recreation Complex with baseball and softball fields, a large outdoor pool, exercise facilities, basketball courts, batting cages and more. Also on the island is the 648-acre James Island County Park with miles of trails to explore as well as kayak rentals and the Splash Zone Waterpark.
