Anyone who says you have to live in Charleston to experience the locale probably hasn't visited I’On Village. Capturing the ambiance and architecture of Charleston’s historic neighborhoods, the village sits between Mathis Ferry Road and the Wando River just north of the Ravenel Bridge in Mt Pleasant. The community's name came from Jacob Bond I’On, a hero of the War of 1812 who also served as mayor of Sullivan’s Island and as president of the South Carolina Senate.
I’On Village places an emphasis on livability by creating a highly walkable community that embraces the slower pace of times past. Homes here are priced from the upper $300s to more than $2.5 million. A mixed-used commercial district blends seamlessly with the neighborhood and offers a variety of shops, restaurants and professional services. The developers are allowing a mixture of builders to design the homes, but with restrictions as to the look and feel of each.
Paying careful attention to preserving natural areas, developers have left plenty of open spaces for residents to enjoy. The community also features a network of tidal creeks and channels that are perfect for kayaking and boating, with a neighborhood boat dock on Hobcaw Creek that provides easy access to the Wando River, Charleston Harbor, and points beyond. Additionally, three other community docks along Shelmore and Hobcaw Creeks offer temporary boat dockage as well as the perfect place to fish and crab. The neighborhood is crisscrossed with trails is for biking, walking and visiting The Rookery, a protected bird nesting area with hundreds of native birds and other wildlife, including the occasional alligator.
The I’On Club offers a first-class fitness facility with state-of-the-art weightlifting and cardio equipment as well as a fitness studio offering group fitness lessons and personal one-on-one training. The Club is also home to a junior Olympic swimming pool as well as a children’s pool and the Saline Lounge pool for adults who just want to relax. Recognized by the U.S. Tennis Association as one of its "Tennis Facilities of the Year", the I’On Club’s tennis program offers seven clay tennis courts with USPTA and PTR certified instructors offering private and group instruction for all ages and levels of play.
