Charles Pinckney would be proud. One of the principal authors and a signer of the U.S. Constitution, Pinckney’s home was the 715-acre Snee Farm Plantation willed to him by his father in 1782. Looking out over the community of quality homes that now stand where rice and indigo were once grown, he’d know the foundation he and others laid for his countrymen’s pursuit of happiness had served them well.
The governor of South Carolina from 1789 to 1792, Pinckney distinguished himself as a soldier in the American Revolution and served in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. Owning numerous other homes, including one in Charleston, Snee Farm was one of Pinckney’s favorite “country seats” and was visited by George Washington during a 1791 tour of the Southern states. Today, Pinckney’s contribution to the state and nation is commemorated at the 28-acre Charles Pinckney National Historic Site on Long Point Road.
Just 20 minutes from downtown Charleston, Snee Farm lies in the heart of all Mount Pleasant has to offer and is close to Interstate 526 for convenient access to anywhere in the greater Charleston area. With the beaches of the Isle of Palms less than eight miles away, community amenities include an 18-hole championship golf course designed by George Cobb, the noted golf course architect best known for the incredible par-3 course at Augusta National. Set among streams, lakes and marshes, the course is home to the annual Rice Planters Annual Amateur Golf Tournament.
Tennis is another popular pastime with tennis leagues and lessons available throughout the year on 10 hard surface and 8 clay courts, all lit for night play. Other community amenities include two swimming pools with a full menu of swimming lessons and activities. Additionally, a robust activities program offers weekly mixers, cookouts, trivia night, bridge, bingo and more.
The community offers one of the better selections of homes, condominiums and villas to be found in Charleston real estate - ranging in size from 1,000 to more than 4,000 square feet in size. Prices range from the low $200s to more than $1 million.
