Whether you subscribe to the school of thought that government is the source of all problems or the solution to them, the 1,700-acre Park West master-planned community in Mt Pleasant is testament that government can sometimes be a valuable partner. A textbook example of what the public and private sector can accomplish working together, this community-within-a-community is also a truly self-sufficient one.

Children at Park West, for example, attend both elementary and middle schools within the community built on 100 beautifully landscaped acres. The new Wando High School, which opened in 2004, is on adjoining property, as is the new Roper Hospital. The Town of Mt Pleasant has located a 59-acre recreation facility within the community as well, with indoor and outdoor swimming pools, softball, baseball, football, and soccer fields.

There’s also the community’s own Park West Swim and Tennis Club with a junior Olympic pool, a children’s pool, a large “zero entry” swimming pool, volleyball court, children’s playground and more. The club also has six tennis courts with lights for nighttime play. Additionally, there are more than six miles of sidewalks and paths to explore. The community includes its own large commercial district with a variety of retail stores and professional services, including a Publix grocery store, restaurants, specialty stores, banks and a child care facility. Professional services offered include dental, medical, veterinary and many others. There’s also the large East Shore Athletic Club, a state-of-the-art fitness facility.

With 29 distinctive neighborhoods, each of the community’s neighborhoods has its own special character, architectural style and price range. A number of condos and townhomes are available. Upscale and luxury townhomes in neighborhoods such as Preston, Tennyson Row, Cambridge Commons and Hampshire typically range from the mid-$200s to $400K and more. Spacious single-family homes are priced from the mid-$200s to more than $2 million for larger homes with frontage on the Wando River or one of the community’s deep-water creeks. There’s even a neighborhood catering to adults age 55-plus as well as home options for continued care needs.

This is possibly one of the best places to live in the lowcountry. Start your search here with all these amenities and you may not want to go further. Call us to tour Park West for condos and homes today.
