A gated community around Coosaw Creek Country Club, the development sits just south of Summerville and is about 30 minutes from downtown Charleston. It’s also just two miles east of the Colonial Dorchester State Historical Site. Once a thriving trade town along the Ashley River, Dorchester’s fortunes dwindled after the Revolutionary War, but its well-preserved archaeological ruins remain. Also along Ashley River Road are the restored plantation homes at Magnolia Gardens and Middleton Place.
The hub of the community is the Country Club’s clubhouse and an Arthur Hills designed golf course. The course features subtle mounding, gently rolling fairways and rewards accurate shots more than it does long ones. There is a full practice facility with driving range and chipping and putting greens. Member tournaments are held throughout the year and there are weekly golf leagues for both men and women. If you are a golfer, the 18-hole par 71 championship course means you’ll love this exceptional community even more.
The country club’s clubhouse also offers a Junior Olympic swimming pool that doubles as home to the community’s swim team, the Crocodiles. Tennis courts and basketball courts are available and lit for night play. Golf, tennis and swimming instruction are offered. The clubhouse features a pro shop, locker rooms and the Palmetto Grill, one of the North Charleston area’s best eateries.
Homes are available from around 2,400 square feet to 6,500 square feet in size and are priced from the mid $200s to the upper $700s, although a few homes are both larger and pricier. Some homes offer in-ground pools and other add-ons. Children attend school in the highly rated Dorchester County District Two, one of the few districts in the state to be accredited as a top quality system by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
