As prestigious an address as can be found on James Island, the Country Club neighborhood is a well-established community of homes next to the Country Club of Charleston. Representing a variety of styles, these homes were built primarily from the 1950s to 1970s and have only grown more distinctive with time. Country Club is loaded with charm and elegant houses are perched atop a lush landscape that is bordered by the Intracoastal Waterway and a scenic golf course. Just a few minutes down the road is the historic downtown area, where residents can get lost in the southern lifestyle.
Most homes sit on large lots and the neighborhood features homes overlooking the golf course as well as Wappoo Creek. Prices start in the upper $400s and range up to $2.5 million plus.
The only golf course community on James Island, the neighborhood has low homeowners association fees of just $120 a year, although golf club fees are separate. Waterfront homes here feature private docks, and there are also boating services at the nearby Stono Marina as well as two public boat ramps on Wappoo Creek. Every year, the Azalea Invitational takes place at the Country Club. Perks of being right on top of a prestigious course include having a neighborhood clubhouse, pool and fitness room. Next door to the Country Club is a beautiful, post-Civil War cotton plantation that now houses an architecture college.
Within minutes of major retail centers and a variety of shops, restaurants, and services, the neighborhood is just three miles from the Medical University of South Carolina and five miles from The Battery on the tip of the Charleston peninsula. Folly Beach is nine miles south.
Several major retail centers are nearby for shopping, dining and professional services. And, of course, the many entertainment options of downtown Charleston are just a short drive away as well.
